او يك‌ دستگاه‌ آپارات‌ و مقداري‌ فيلم‌ يك‌ حلقه‌اي‌ خريد و به ايران آورد. گوشه‌اي‌ از حياط‌ پشت‌ دكانش را به‌ سالن‌ سينما تبديل‌ و در ماه رمضان 1322ق/ نوامبر1904م اقدام‌ به‌ نمايش‌ فيلم‌ كرد، و بدينسان نام او به‌ عنوان‌ اولين‌ بهره‌بردار سينما در ايران‌ ثبت‌ شد. اعيان‌ و اشراف‌، حتي‌ اتابك‌ اعظم‌ و علاالدوله&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt; و ملجيك ثاني از سالن سينماي او استقبال كردند.&lt;sup&gt;4&lt;/sup&gt;<br /> <br /> با آغاز مبارزاتي‌ كه‌ منجر به‌ انقلاب ‌مشروطه‌ شد، صحاف‌باشي‌ به جرگة آزادي‌خواهان درآمد.&lt;sup&gt;5&lt;/sup&gt; مدتي‌ بعد به دستور مستبدان ‌كارهاي‌ خود را متوقف‌ و ترك‌ ديار كرد.&lt;sup&gt;6&lt;/sup&gt; او اعلاني‌ براي‌ حراج‌ اموالش‌ چاپ&lt;sup&gt;7&lt;/sup&gt; و در موعد مقرر خانة‌ خود را واگذار كرد، دستگاه‌ سينماتوگراف‌ و پرده‌هاي نمايش را به‌ آرتاشس‌ پاتماگريان فروخت‌ و تحت‌الحفظ‌ به‌ اصفهان‌ و سپس‌ حوالي‌ جندق‌ و بيابانك‌ تبعيد شد. در سال‌ 1306 قمري/ 1889م همراه‌ همسر و سه‌ فرزندش‌ راهي‌ كربلا شد و از آن جا به هندوستان‌ رفت.&lt;sup&gt;8&lt;/sup&gt;
