نخستين رصدگر و فراهم آورندة زيج در دورة اسلامي. ابن يونس، كه تنها دانشمند مسلماني است كه از او ياد كرده دربارة وي گفته است: در زمان يحيي برمكي در جنديشاپور به رصد خورشيد پرداخت كه نخستين رصد پس از بطميوس بوده است.<sup>(1)</sup> ابن يونس در جاي ديگر<sup>(2)</sup> زمان نخستين رصد دورة اسلامي را دهة 160ق دانسته كه شايد همان رصد نهاوندي باشد.<sup>(3و4)</sup> نهاوندي حاصل كار را در زيج مشتمل گرد آورده بود كه امروزه نشاني از آن در دست نيست.<sup>(1و5)</sup> برخي پژوهشگران از دقت ابزارهاي اندازهگيري نهاوندي سخن گفته و نيز وي را با احمد بن محمد حاسب يكي دانستهاند.<sup>(4)</sup><br />
