اين منظومه شامل 98 حكايت در 12 مقاله است.<sup>1</sup> هر مقاله به اصلي از اصول تصوف اختصاص دارد كه به روش صوفيان براي شرح و تفصيل آن اصول، در هر مقالهاي حكايتها و افسانههاي دلكشي آورده و مشكلات كلام اين طايفه را شرح و تفسير كرده است.<sup>2</sup> از اين نظر با ''حديقةالحقيقه'' سنايي و ''مخزنالاسرار'' نظامي شباهت دارد. مقالات اين منظومه برخي بسيار كوتاه و برخي ديگر مفصّل است. اسلوب كلّي داستانپردازي در اين منظومه نيز، چون منظومههاي ديگر عطار مبتني بر سادهگويي و احتراز از تكلّف است.<sup>3</sup> ''اسرارنامه'' بدون شك يكي از آخرين منظومههاي عطار است، زيرا چندين بار در آن به پيري خود اشاره ميكند.<sup>4</sup> كتاب از مدح خداوند و ستايش رسول (ص) و ثناي خلفاي چهارگانه آغاز ميشود و به دعاي سراينده پايان ميپذيرد.<sup>5</sup> گويند عطّار در 618ق / 1221م در نيشابور نسخهاي از آن را به جلال الدين محمد بلخي كه در آن هنگام نوجواني چهارده ساله بود، هديه داد. بنابراين، شاعر بايد پيش از اين تاريخ آن را تأليف كرده باشد. نسخههاي اسرارنامه از لحاظ كميت ابيات متفاوت است.<sup>6</sup> نسخهاي از آن نزديك 3100 بيت دارد و نخستين بار در 1298ش در تهران چاپ شده است.<sup>7</sup> <br />
