در اواخر 1320ش، يكي از وكلاي دادگستري، به نام صاحبي، در خيابان لالهزار، روبري مسجد لالهزار، يك مجتمع (پاساژ) با سالن بزرگ نمايش بنا نهاد. <br />

عبدالحسين نوشين، در 1322ش، اين سالن را براي اجراي نمايشهاي غيرسنتي و فرنگي اجاره كرد و آن را تماشاخانهي فرهنگ ناميد.<sup>1</sup> او از تني چند از هنرمندان مانند علي جعفريه، لرتا، علي محزون، وثيقي، هاتفي و ... براي همكاري در اجراي نمايش دعوت كرد. بعدها شبپره و قسطانيان نيز به گروه او پيوستند.<sup>2</sup> <br />

تئاتر فرهنگ در فروردين ماه 1323، با نمايشنامة «وُلين» افتتاح شد.<sup>3</sup> اجراي اين نمايشنامه با موفقيت زيادي روبرو شد. فعاليتهاي بعدي اين تماشاخانه با اجراي نمايشنامهي ميرزا كمالالدين (تارتوف) و بازيگران معروف آن دوره ماننده: لرتا، توران مهرزاد، حسين خيرخواه، حسن خاشع، محمدتقي كهنميري، جلال رياحي، اصغر تفكري، محمد عاصمي توفيق بيشتري يافت.<sup>4</sup> نمايش بعدي اين تماشاخانه اجراي مجدد نمايش مردم (توپاز)، نوشتهي مارسل پانيول بود كه با اقبال زياد تماشاگران همراه بود.<sup>5</sup> <br />

تماشاخانة فرهنگ در اواخر 1323 آتش گرفت و تعطيل شد. پس از ترميم و بازسازي آن تئاتر پارس در همين محل گشايش يافت.<sup>6</sup><br />
