او چند بار به روزنامهنگاري و مجلهنويسي پرداخت. از زندگينامة خود نوشت او برميآيد كه وي در دوران دانشآموزي، كار روزنامهنگاري را با تهية روزنامة ديواري آغاز كرد [يادنامه ص182]. پس از آنكه به حزبتوده گرويد، مدتي در 1325ش به مديريت چاپخانة «شمله» برگزيده شد. سپس مدير داخلي هفتهنامة «بشر» ارگان دانشجويان حزبتوده گرديد و چون در اين زمينه موفق بود مديريت داخلي مجلة ماهانة تئوريك حزب موسوم به «مردم» را به او سپردند. صاحب امتياز اين مجله فريدون كشاورز و سردبير آن احسان طبري بود و تا زمان جدايي آلاحمد از حزب توده 18 شمارة آن را درآورد. پس از انشعاب از حزب، نشريات آن را نيز به كلي رها كرد.<br />

از آن پس او شخصاً چند بار از 1327ش به مجلهنويسي پرداخت اما هيچگاه نتوانست اين كار را براي مدتي طولاني دنبال كند. هيچ يك از مجلاتي كه با همكاري او نشر شده بيش از چند شماره منتشر نشده است [افشار ص334]. در 1329ش مديريت روزنامة شاهد ارگان نيروي سوم را در دست گرفت. صاحب امتياز اين روزنامه علي زهري و سردبير آن دكتر مظفر بقايي بود. در 1331ش با خليل ملكي در انتشار مجلة نبرد زندگي همكاري داشت، اين همكاريها با نشريات نيروي سوم در مجموع سه سال به طول انجاميد. در اين دوره او عضو كميتة نيروي سوم و گردانندة تبليغاتش بود. نيروي سوم در آن روزگار يكي از اركان جبهة ملي بود اما آلاحمد از ارديبهشت 1332ش از آنجا كنارهگيري كرد و پس از وقوع كودتاي 28 مرداد 32 تقريباً روزنامهنگاري سياسي را رها و به مقالهنويسي و داستاننويسي روي آورد. اما در 1339ش خليل ملكي كه مجلهاي به نام علم و زندگي بنياد نهاده بود او را به مديريت مجله انتخاب كرد.<br />

دو سال بعد در 1341ش روزنامة كيهان بنا به مصالحي نشرية وزيني به نام «كيهان ماه» با مديريت آلاحمد تأسيس كرد. اما از اين نشريه بيش از دو شماره انتشار نيافت و چون كتاب معروف غربزدگي در آن به چاپ ميرسيد از شمارة سوم توقيف گرديد. با اين همه دو شمارة مذكور اثر بزرگي از خود بر جاي نهاد. آخرين فعاليت مطبوعاتي آلاحمد، همكاري او و يارانش در انتشار مجلة جهان نو بود اما به قول او «جهان نو، چهار شماره بيشتر تحمل ما را نكرد».
