علامه جلالالدين همايي اصفهاني شيرازي متخلص به سنا از استادان نامدار علم و ادب ايران، فرزند ميرزا ابوالقاسم محمد نصير طرب و نوادة هماي شيرازي (م 1290ق) بود. پدر و جدش در زمرة عالمان، ادبا، شعرا و عرفاي بزرگ عهد خود بودند.<sup>1</sup> او در اصفهان به دنيا آمد. مقدمات را نزد والدين خود و سپس در مدارس شهر فراگرفت. سپس از ميرزا حسن قدسي و ملامحمدتقي كاتب خوشنويسي، از شيخ علي يزدي، محمد كاظم كروندي و ديگران ادبيات عرب، سطوح فقه و كلام و رجال آموخت.<sup>2</sup> پس از آن در مدرسة نيم آورد به تحصيل علوم قديم، به ويژه فلسفه و حكمت پرداخت.<sup>3</sup> از استادان بنام وي در اين مرحله بايد از حاجي آقا رحيم ارباب (1297ق ـ ؟)، شيخ محمد خراساني (م 1335ق) حاجي ملا عبدالجواد آدينهاي (م 1339ق) و حاجي مير سيد علي جناب (م 1349ق) ياد كرد.<sup>4</sup> وي همچنين در روايت و اجتهاد از مشايخي چون مرتضي آشتياني، محمد حسين فشاركي و ديگران اجازه گرفت.<sup>5</sup> پس از پايان تحصيلات قديم تا 1357ش در مدارس اصفهان حوزة درس داشت. سپس به استخدام وزارت معارف درآمد و براي تدريس فلسفه و ادبيات رهسپار تبريز شد.<sup>6</sup> چندي بعد به تهران آمد و ابتدا در مدارسي نظير دارالفنون و سپس در دانشگاه تهران به تدريس پرداخت.<sup>7</sup> در 1345ش با تقاضاي خود بازنشسته گرديد و سپس به عنوان استاد ممتاز برگزيده شد. بدين ترتيب همچنان به تدريس ادامه داد.<sup>8</sup> سرانجام در تهران درگذشت و در تكية لسان الارض (گلستان شهدا) اصفهان مدفون شد.<sup>9</sup> از آثار ارزندة او ميتوان ''تاريخ ادبيات ايران''، در دو جلد (تبريز، 1308 ـ 1309ش)، ''غزالي نامه'' (1315، 1342ش)، تصحيح و مقدمة ''نصيحةالملوك'' امام محمد غزالي (1316 و...)، مقدمه بر مثنوي ''ولدنامه'' بهاءالدين ولد (1316)، ''خيامي نامه''، ''دانشنامه''، حاوي منتخب اشعار همايي (1302ش) و ''تاريخ اصفهان'' (1375ش) را نام برد.<sup>10</sup> همايي افزون بر فضايل بي شمار در انواع شعر نيز چيره دست بود. شعر او در ماية شعر سنّتي و زبان او ساده و روشن است.<sup>11</sup> <br />
