'''استاد حسين لرزاده،''' در 1285 در تهران متولد شد. استاد در سن هفت تا هشت سالگي بود كه حدود شش ماه به مكتبخانة ميرزا حسن در نزديكي چهار راه حاجرضا ـ خيابان بلورسازي رفت. سالهاي آخر دبستان براي استاد مفهومي نداشت، چرا كه در سالهاي قبل، هندسه و حساب و رسم فني و نقاشي را در كلاسهاي بالاتر و سطحي عاليتر طي كرده بود. <br />

پس از دوران ابتدايي، چند سالي به دبيرستان سلطاني واقع در پل اميربهادر فرستاده شد. از آنجا كه اين مدرسه، رشتة فني مورد علاقهاش را نداشت، مدرسه را ترك و به شعبة مجسمهسازي مدرسة «كمالالملك» فرستاده شد. پدر ايشان در جلسات شبانه كه معماران براي آموختن رموز معماري در خانة ايشان جمع بودند، لرزاده را نيز در كار آنها شركت ميداد و ايشان به طور عملي معماري را در همين جلسات فرا گرفتند. پس از مرگ پدر در 1305، به دعوت استاد «جعفرخان كاشاني» كه مشغول ساختن عمارت سنگي تپه عليخان در سعدآباد بود به آنجا رفت و مشغول به كار نقاشي در يكي از اتاقهاي اين عمارت شد. نخستين كار مستقل استاد را ميتوان سر در بانك شاهي واقع در ميدان توپخانه دانست (بانك تجارت فعلي). استاد در طول عمر هنري نزديك به يك قرن خود، مساجد متعددي را طراحي و اجرا كرده كه در رأس آن مسجد اعظم قم به دعوت مستقيم آيتالله بروجردي از وي است. همچنين طي مأموريتي كه آيتالله بروجردي به وي محول كرد، مأمور تعمير و پارهاي تغييرات در حرم مطهر حضرت سيدالشهدا در كربلا شد. ايشان طي حكمي از طرف آيتالله شهرستاني توليت وقت آن حرم مطهر در عراق به عنوان افتخارآميز «معمار آستانة حضرت اباعبدالله الحسين<sup>(ع)</sup> » نايل گرديد.<sup>1</sup><br />

مروري مختصر بر شيوههاي كار استاد:<br />

به گفتة شاگردان استاد لرزاده، چنانچه كارهاي معماري وي را در يك منظر كلي بررسي كنيم، ويژگيشان سهل و ممتنع بودن آنهاست. هيچ يك از آثار استاد، شگفتي آفرين نيست و هيچ انگشتي از مشاهدة آثار ايشان به دندان گزيده نميشود، بلكه به آرامي چنان با جان آدمي عجين است و به دل مينشيند كه اصلاً با مخاطبان بده بستان دارد.<br />

در آثار استاد لرزاده كاسهسازي يا «شمسهزياد» بسيار كار شده و به هيچ وجه ابداع او نيست. كاسهسازي ورودي شرقي مجموعة سپهسالار كار مرحوم استاد جعفرخان كاشاني هنوز از نفايس هنر معماري است. اما اين هنر به وسيلة استاد لرزاده به اوج رسيد، تا آنجا كه ميتوان كاسهسازي را امضاي استاد لرزاده بر آثارش دانست.<br />

آثار يادبودي از لرزاده: ويژگي ديگر در كار استاد لرزاده اگر بيسابقه نباشد، كم سابقه است. به عنوان مثال سَردر دارالفنون كه طرح و عمل وي است، آنچنان با ساختمان اصلي پيوند زده شده كه اصلاً تصور دارالفنون بدون اين سرَدر بعيد مينمايد.<br />
