در لغت به معني خشنودي و خوشدلي است و در اصطلاح، آخرين مقام از مقامات هفت‌گانة عارفان در سلوك الي‌الله است.&lt;sup&gt;1&lt;/sup&gt; سالك پس از آن‌كه يگانگي خدا را باور داشت و دانست كه حق، سرچشمة خير و بركت است و تنها اوست كه بر هر كار توانا و به هر چيز داناست (= توحيد) كار خود را بدو وامي‌گذارد (= توكّل) و همان مي‌خواهد كه او خواسته است، يعني به قضا رضا مي‌دهد و بر آستانة تسليم سر مي‌نهد و باور مي‌دارد كه «در طريقت هر چه پيش سالك آيد خير اوست»&lt;sup&gt;2&lt;/sup&gt; و يقين مي‌كند كه «بر قلم صنع خطايي نرفته»&lt;sup&gt;3&lt;/sup&gt; و «هر چيز كه هست آن‌چنان مي‌بايد». سالكي كه به مقام رضا مي‌رسد&#039;&#039;&#039;،&#039;&#039;&#039; نه دل به آينده مي‌بندد، نه خود را به گذشته سرگرم مي‌دارد، بلكه صوفي‌اي است «ابن الوقت» كه دم را غنيمت مي‌شمرد و مي‌داند كه «فردا گفتن از شرط طريق نيست».&lt;sup&gt;4&lt;/sup&gt; اين همه موجب مي‌شود تا سالك لب از شكوه و شكايت فرو بندد، بدبيني را به يك‌سو نهد و به خوش‌بيني روي آورد، از صفات ناپسنديده و نيز از اندوه برهد و به شادي و سرور و آزادگي برسد و به آرامش كامل دست يابد. چنين است كه توحيد، توكل و رضا را سه اصل بنيادي سلوك شمرده‌اند. سه اصلي كه ميان آن‌ها پيوندي علت و معلولي برقرار است. يعني از توحيد، توكل به بار مي‌آيد و از توكل، رضا حاصل مي‌گردد.&lt;sup&gt;5&lt;/sup&gt; <br /> <br /> طبق نظر برخي مشايخ صوفيه، رضا، حال و طبق نظر برخي ديگر، رضا، مقام است. چنان‌چه فرقة محاسبيّه، رضا را از جملة احوال به شمار آورده‌اند و بر خلاف آن‌ها، صوفيان عراق رضا را از جملة مقامات دانسته‌اند.&lt;sup&gt;6&lt;/sup&gt; <br /> <br /> چنين مي‌نمايد كه از قرن چهارم هجري قمري به بعد، نظرية صوفيان عراق در باب رضا پذيرفته شد. چنان‌كه ابونصر سرّاج (متوفي 387ق / ؟م) صاحب كتاب اللّمع، رضا را هفتمين مقام شمرد و هجويري (متوفي 465ق / ؟م) در &#039;&#039;كشف المحجوب&#039;&#039;، رضا را «نهايت مقامات و بدايت احوال»&lt;sup&gt;7&lt;/sup&gt;
