در سال 1303، كه محمود آقاي ظهيرالديني گروهي به‌نام «كمدي اخوان» تأسيس كرد، رفيع حالتي به اين گروه ملحق شد و تا درگذشت محمود آقا، و از هم پاشيدن گروه با آن‌ها همكاري مي‌كرد و در 1305ش كه جامعه باربُد را تأسيس كرد، حالتي به آن پيوست و سال‌ها در جامعة باربد بازي و كارگرداني مي‌كرد. در 1318ش با تأسيس هنرستان هنرپيشگي به استادي تاريخ، لباس، دكور و گريم هنرستان برگزيده شد.&lt;sup&gt;(2)&lt;/sup&gt;
