روزبه فرزند دادويه، نويسندة ايراني تبار عرب زبان در جور (فيروزآباد) فارس به دنيا آمد.<sup>1</sup> در كودكي با پدرش به بصره رفت. زندگي دبيري خود را در دولت بني اميه آغاز كرد و پس از روي كار آمدن بني عباس، به عيسي بن علي عموي سفّاح و منصور عباسي پيوست و ظاهراً به دست او مسلمان شد.<sup>2</sup> گويا در همين اوقات با ابوجعفر منصور خليفة عباسي آشنايي يافت و براي وي به ترجمة كتابهاي علمي و ادبي بسياري از پهلوي به عربي دست زد. سرانجام به اتهام زندقه توسط سفيان بن معاويه شكنجه و به قتل رسيد.<sup>3</sup> او يكي از دانشمندان زبان پهلوي بود. ابن مُقله (د 328ق / 940م) و ابن خلدون (د 808ق / 1405م) نيز تسلط او را به زبان عربي ستوده اند.<sup>4</sup><br />
