سعيد فرزند ناظم الاطباء نفيسي از پزشكان و دانشمندان كرمان در تهران به دنيا آمد.<sup>1</sup> خاندان او در چند سده از چهرههاي درخشان فرهنگ و ادب ايران بودند.<sup>2</sup> پس از پايان تحصيلات متوسطه براي ادامة تحصيل به سوئيس و فرانسه رفت.<sup>3</sup> در بازگشت به ايران رياست ادارة فلاحت و مدرسة تجارت را به عهده گرفت. ضمن آن به تدريس در مدارس علوم سياسي و دارالفنون پر داخت. از ابتداي تأسيس دانشگاه تهران به عنوان استاد دانشكدة حقوق و سپس دانشكدة ادبيات با دانشگاه همكاري كرد.<sup>4</sup> پس از آن به عضويت پيوستة فرهنگستان ايران درآمد. سفرهاي مهم و تحقيقاتي بسياري نيز به كشورهاي مختلف از جمله هند، مصر و لبنان كرد. بيشتر آثارش را مطالب تاريخي و ادبي تشكيل ميداد. به نمايشنامه نويسي هم روي آورد و چندين نمايشنامه نوشت. با روزنامة ''شفق''، مجلة ''سپيد و سياه''، مجلة ''فلاحت و تجارت'' و روزنامة ''اميد'' همكاري داشت و مقالات متعددي را در آنها به چاپ رساند. سرانجام در بيمارستان شوروي تهران درگذشت.<sup>5</sup> منشآت او از سبكي روان و انشاي سهل برخوردار است كه از آن كفايتاً به مقامهنويسي و مجلهپردازي تعبير ميشود. بيش از صد كتاب و رساله از خود باقي گذاشت.<sup>6</sup> ''ماه نخشب'' (تهران، 1328ش)، ''احوال و اشعار رودكي'' (تهران، 1309، 1310 و 1319ش)، ''تاريخ نظم ونثر در ايران و در زبان فارسي'' (تهران، 1334ش)، ''فرهنگ فرانسه ـ فارسي'' (تهران، 1309 ـ 1310ش) و تصحيح ''ديوان انوري'' از جمله آثار او هستند.<sup>7</sup> <br />
