خاندان سورن از خاندانهاي هفتگانه (ويسپوهرگان = اهل بيوتات) دورة اشكانيان بود كه در سيستان استقرار داشتند و پس از خاندان شاهي اعضاي آن مقام مهمي داشتند و تاجگذاري اشكها بر عهدة آنان بود.<sup>1</sup> <br />

سورن كه مشخص نيست نام او لقبي است كه از خاندان خويش گرفته يا اينكه نام او نيز همين بوده از 57 تا 37 پ.م مقام شامخي در اوضاع سياسي ايران داشت.<sup>2</sup> مهمترين اقدام او در نبرد حران بود (53 پ.م) كه با استفاده از تيراندازان سبك اسلحة پارتي، روشهاي جنگ و گريز و به كارگيري روشهاي استتار نظاميان<sup>3</sup> بر كراسوس فرماندة بزرگ لژيونهاي رومي پيروز شد.<sup>4</sup> او را از نامآوران و دليران ايران زمين دانستهاند<sup>5</sup> كه با ده هزار سوار و هزار شتر بار و بنه تير و اسلحه و دويست عرّاده كه حرم او را حمل ميكردند،<sup>6</sup> تجاوز روميان را به قلمرو ايران در هم شكست و پارتيان تا سوريه را از تجاوز آنان در امان نگه داشتند.<sup>7</sup> <br />
