در دهخوارقان (آذرشهر) متولد شد.<sup>1</sup> در حوزة علمية قم نزد سيّد محمد حجّت، سيّد محمدتقي خوانساري و ديگر استادان شاگردي كرد و 4 سال هم نزد امام خميني، فلسفه، عرفان و اخلاق آموخت. تحصيلاتش را تا اخذ درجة اجتهاد، در نجف ادامه داد، آنگاه بنا بر توصية آيتالله حكيم در همانجا به تدريس دروس سطح عالي حوزوي پرداخت.<sup>2</sup> <br />

مدني با رفت و آمدهاي بسيار به ايران و عراق (نجف<sup>*</sup>) خود را در جريان امور سياسي، اجتماعي و مذهبي جامعة ايران قرار ميداد. فعاليتهاي سياسي را از 1324ش در نجف، با پرداخت هزينة مبارزة نواب صفوي عليه احمد كسروي آغاز كرد. پس از آن در دهة 1340ش با شكلگيري نهضت امام خميني بر ضد رژيم پهلوي، به صف طرفداران و ياران نزديك امام پيوست.<sup>3</sup> <br />
