پس از تحصيلات ابتدايي در زادگاهش شهر نور، عازم تهران شد، سپس به نجف رفت و در محضر حبيبالله رشتي و ميرزاي شيرازي به تحصيل پرداخت.<sup>1</sup> پس از رسيدن به درجة اجتهاد به تهران آمد، به واسطة تسلط در علوم اسلامي رتبة اول روحانيت پايتخت را حائز گرديد.<sup>2</sup> در جريان نهضت مشروطه متحد با ساير علما به مبارزه با استبداد پرداخت<sup>3</sup> و با تلاشهاي ايشان نظارت پنج فقيه جامعالشرايط بر مصوبات مجلس در متمم قانون اساسي به تصويب رسيد.<sup>4</sup> با مشاهدة تغيير روية مشروطهخواهان و پارهاي پيشآمدهاي عاطفي ـ اجتماعي، به مخالفت با آنها برخاست و خواهان مشروطة مشروعه شد<sup>5</sup> و با محمدعلي شاه و استبداديان در يك خط قرار گرفت. اصرار و پافشاري وي بر مواضع خود موجب شد كه مشروطهخواهان در دادگاهي كه قضاوت آن را شيخ ابراهيم زنجاني بر عهده داشت وي را محكوم به اعدام كنند.<sup>6</sup> از آثار وي است: 1- رسالة منظوم الدرر التنظيم، 2- صحيفة قائميه، 3- رسالة سؤال و پاسخ، 4- رسالة عمليه، 5- تذكرة الغافل و ارشاد الجاهل، 6- شرح مقاصد، 7- رسالة تحريم مشروطيت، 8- بياض، 9- ديوان اشعار.<sup>7</sup> <br />
