ميرزا محمدعلي متخلص به صائب فرزند ميرزا عبدالرحيم تبريزي اصفهاني در اصفهان پرورش يافت و دانشهاي رايج زمان از جمله ادبيات را از استادان گوناگون و خط را از عمويش شمس تبريزي، معروف به شيرين قلم آموخت.<sup>1</sup> در 1036 ق / ؟م مقارن با سلطنت جهانگير گوركاني (حك 1014ـ1037 ق / ؟م) به سوي هند به راه افتاد و سر راه چندي در كابل توقف كرد.<sup>2</sup> در آنجا با ظفرخان احسن حاكم كابل آشنا شد و از نقدها و اظهار نظرهاي وي در شعرش بهره برد. سپس در اوايل جلوس شاه جهان گوركاني (حك 1037ـ1068 ق / ؟م) همراه ظفرخان به هند رفت و از شاه جهان لقب مستعد خان گرفت.<sup>3</sup> پس از شش سال دوري از وطن، پدرش به هند رفت و او را با خود به اصفهان بازگرداند.<sup>4</sup> در بازگشت به كشور به دربار شاه عباس دوم صفوي (حك 1052 ـ 1077 ق) پيوست و ملكالشعراي دربار وي شد.<sup>5</sup> آنگاه باقي عمر را در عزلت و فراغت سپري كرد تا در گذشت. شمار اشعار او را تا 000/300 بيت نوشتهاند.<sup>6</sup> از آثارش ميتوان ''ديوان كليات''، مثنوي ''قندهارنامه''، مثنوي اياز و محمود و ديوان تركي را نام برد.<sup>7</sup> دريافت ذهن نكته ياب و خلاق صائب در قالب الفاظ و تركيبهاي نو به غناي زبان فارسي كمك شايان كرده است.<sup>8</sup> <br />
