ظهيرالدين ابوالفضل طاهر بن محمد فاريابي از شاعران پايان سدة 6 و از قصيده سرايان و غزل گويان ايران است. در غزلهاي خود به ظهير تخلّص ميكرد. در فارياب از توابع جوزجان بلخ به دنيا آمد.<sup>1</sup> در جواني چندي در خراسان زيست و مدتي در نيشابور به كسب دانش پرداخت. در خراسان به دربار طغانشاه بن مؤيّد پيوست، اما از وي توجه و نواختي نديد. در 582ق / 1186م از نيشابور به عراق رفت و در اصفهان به خدمت خاندان خُجَند درآمد.<sup>2</sup> در عراق شهرت فراواني به دست آورد و به ويژه مورد توجّة ابوبكر جهان پهلوان بن ايلدگز، اتابك آذربايجان قرار گرفت.<sup>3</sup> در اواخر عمر زندگي درباري را رها كرد و در تبريز به كنج تقوي روي آورد و همان جا درگذشت.<sup>4</sup> در مقبرة الشعرا تبريز يا حظيرةالقضاة در كنار خاقاني به خاك سپرده شد.<sup>5</sup> از ممدوحان وي ميتوان حسام الدين اردشير بن حسن از ملوك آل باوند، اتابك قزل ارسلان (حك 573-590 ق / 1177-1193م) و طغرل بن ارسلان از سلاجقة عراق را نام برد.<sup>6</sup> تعريض سعدي درباب مديحه گوييهايش او را نمونة برجستة شاعران اغراق پرداز نشان ميدهد. سبك بيان او به دقت معاني و انسجام لفظ موصوف است.<sup>7</sup> در شعر او مدح، درخواست، درشتي و نرمي، يأس، اميد، نشاط و خستگي بسيار ديده ميشود.<sup>8</sup> ''ديوان'' او چندين بار چاپ شده و اخيراً نيز با تصحيح و تحقيق اميرحسن يزدگردي (به كوشش اصغر دادبه، تهران: نشر قطره، 1381ش) به چاپ رسيده است. <br />
