ابوالمعالي عبدالله بن محمد ميانجي همداني معروف به قاضي همداني در همدان به دنيا آمد. چون اجدادش از مردم ميانه (ميانج) بودند، به ميانجي منسوب شد. جدّ و پدرش در همدان منصب قضاوت داشتند.<sup>1</sup> او قبل از رسيدن به سن بلوغ، ادب و نحو و صرف، فقه، كلام، حديث و اصول، حساب، منطق و تاريخ آموخت. پس از تحصيل علوم ظاهري به تصوف روي آورد.<sup>2</sup> نزد پدرش بوبكر محمد، بركة همداني، محمد بن حمويه، شيخ فتحه، معشوق طوسي، محمد و احمد غزالي تلمذ كرد.<sup>3</sup> در مذهب پيرو طريقة شافعي بود. احمد غزالي او را قرةّ العين ميخواند. با گروهي از رجال مشهور زمان خود مانند عزيزالدين مستوفي و ابوالقاسم درگزيني، وزير سلطان محمود بن محمد بن ملكشاه (حك 511-525 ق) و سلطان سنجر سلجوقي (حك 511ـ552ق) و جز آنان رابطه و مكاتبه داشت.<sup>4</sup> در آراء صوفيانة خود از نظرات منصور حلاج، محمد غزالي و احمد غزالي متأثر بود.<sup>5</sup> خوارق عادات و كراماتي نيز از وي به ظهور پيوست.<sup>6</sup> سرانجام ابوالقاسم درگزيني به سعايت گروهي از علماي ظاهري او را در همدان به دار آويخت. ''زبدة الحقايق''، ''تمهيدات''، ''يزدان شناخت، لوايح، شكواي'' ''الغريب عن الاوطان'' (به عربي) و ''مكاتيب'' از جمله آثار او هستند. اشعار فارسي و عربي بسياري نيز از وي نقل شده است.<sup>7</sup> <br />
