غلامحسين ساعدي مشهور به گوهر مراد در تبريز به دنيا آمد. تحصيلات ابتدايي و متوسطه را در زادگاهش به پايان رساند. سپس به تهران آمد و رشتة پزشكي خواند. از اواخر دهة سي و اوايل دهة چهل به كار نويسندگي پرداخت.<sup>1</sup> در 1314ش همكاري با مجلة ''آرش'' و ''كتاب هفته'' را آغاز كرد و از اين راه با بزرگان شعر و ادب ايران نظير پرويز ناتل خانلري<sup>*</sup> و ديگران آشنا شد.<sup>2</sup> در ميان سالهاي 1342ـ1343 ش و نيز 1345 ـ 1346 ش داستانها و نمايشنامههاي ساعدي مورد استقبال هنر دوستان قرار گرفت. در 1353 ش با مشاركت گروهي از نويسندگان به انتشار مجلة ''الفبا'' پرداخت، اما پيش از انتشار شمارة ششم اين مجله به زندان افتاد.<sup>3</sup> در 1357 ش به دعوت انجمن قلم امريكا به آن كشور رفت. در همان سال سفري هم به لندن كرد و در طول اقامت خود در آنجا در انتشار مجلة ''ايرانشهر'' با احمد شاملو<sup>*</sup> به همكاري پرداخت.<sup>4</sup> در اواخر 1360 ش رهسپار پاريس شد. سرانجام در همانجا درگذشت.<sup>5</sup> در نمايشنامههاي ساعدي دو شيوة رواني و اجتماعي با هم آميخته است و گاه جنبة رواني آنها بر واقعيتهاي زيستي و اجتماعي ميچربد.<sup>6</sup> قصههاي او از نظر فرهنگ جغرافيايي بر سه محور اساسي قرار دارد: 1ـ بندرهاي جنوب كشور، 2ـ روستاهاي آذربايجان، 3ـ شهرهاي بزرگ.<sup>7</sup> ''شبنشيني با شكوه'' (چ 2، 1339 ش)؛ ''عزاداران بَيَل'' (1343 ش)؛ ''آي با كلاه، آي بي كلاه'' (1346ش)؛ ''پرواربندان'' (1348 ش)؛ ''چشم در برابر چشم'' و فيلم نامة ''گاو'' از جمله آثار مشهور وي هستند.<sup>8</sup> <br />
