ميرزا ابوالقاسم قائم مقام فراهاني متخلص به ثنايي فرزند ميرزا عيسي مشهور به ميرزا بزرگ قائم مقام اول (1237ق / 1821م) بود.<sup>1</sup> در اوان كودكي به تحصيل دانش و كسب كمالات پرداخت. پس از مرگ پدر به وزارت عباس ميرزا وليعهد فتحعلي شاه قاجار (حك 1212-1250ق / 1796-1834م) رسيد.<sup>2</sup> پس از سه سال از كار بركنار شد، اما در 1241ق / 1825م به مقام سابق بازگشت. دگربار به سبب مخالفت با جنگ ايران و روسيه معزول شد، اما پس از انعقاد عهدنامة تركمن چاي، به امر شاه مأمور آذربايجان گرديد.<sup>3</sup> سپس عباس ميرزا براي سركوب مردم هرات او را به همراه محمد ميرزا به خراسان فرستاد. پس از مرگ عباس ميرزا در امر انتخاب محمد ميرزا به جانشيني او نقش مهمي ايفا كرد. با در گذشت شاه، وليعهد را بر تخت سلطنت نشاند و خود صدراعظم وي شد. سرانجام به دست دژخيمان به قتل رسيد.<sup>4</sup> قائم مقام در علوم حكمت و ادب و نظم و نثر فارسي و عربي مهارت داشت. در شعر از پيروان سبك خراساني بود.<sup>5</sup> در نثر شيوة سعدي را همراه با تعبيرهاي شيرين خود دنبال ميكرد.<sup>6</sup> قلم و قدم او سخت در هشدار ايرانيان مؤثر افتاد.<sup>7</sup> اثر مشهور او ''منشآت'' (چ 1، 1280ق) نام دارد كه از شاهكارهاي نثر فارسي است و هم به لحاظ ادبي و هم از نظر تاريخي ارزشمند است.<sup>8</sup> به جز ''منشآت'' كه غالباً كمال نثر نويسي در دوران قاجار به شمار ميرود، مثنوي فكاهي گونهاي به نام جلايرنامه از خود باقي گذاشته است.<sup>9</sup> <br />
