 <br /> <br /> فاصلة اين شهر تا تهران (از مسير كرمانشاه) حدود 670 كم و تا مركز استان حدود 160 كم است.&lt;sup&gt;4&lt;/sup&gt; رودخانة الوند از ميان اين شهر گذر مي‌كند و مانند چند رودخانة ديگر همگي به سوي عراق جريان دارند و در مجموع شرايط مساعدي را براي كشاورزي فراهم ساخته‌اند. قصر شيرين به دليل موقعيت مرزي خود داراي اهميت ارتباطي و سوق‌الجيشي (استراتژيك) است. در جنگ عراق عليه ايران به شدت آسيب ديد و تقريباً خالي از سكنه شد.&lt;sup&gt;5&lt;/sup&gt; <br /> <br /> قصر شيرين را خسروپرويز ساساني براي همسر خود بنا كرد؛&lt;sup&gt;6&lt;/sup&gt; امّا پس از حملة عرب‌ها و فروپاشي ساسانيان، رو به ويراني نهاد. حمدالله مستوفي از خرابه‌هاي قصر شيرين به تفصيل ياد كرده است.&lt;sup&gt;7&lt;/sup&gt;
