در 1280ش در قم به دنيا آمد و پس از طي تحصيلات ابتدايي در حوزه علميه قم ادامه تحصيل داده و در 1311 به تهران آمد و در چاپخانهاي مشغول به كار شد.<sup>1</sup> نخستين شاهكار قلمياش به نام تفريحات شب در روزنامه شفق شرق با نام مستعار م. دهاتي چاپ شد. در 1314 با بورس دولتي براي تحصيل روزنامهنگاري عازم بروكسل شد و پس از چهار سال در مقطع فوق ليسانس فارغالتحصيل شد و توانست در 1321 امتياز روزنامه مرد امروز را بگيرد.<sup>2</sup> وي با اين روزنامه وارد سياست شد و مبارزه گستردهاي عليه احزاب چپ گرا و راستگراي وابسته به روسيه و انگلستان<sup>3</sup> و رجال و سياستمداران فاسد و مطبوعات وابسته آغاز كرد. در اين ميان مخالفت با قوام و امتياز نفت شمال و حتي تعيين جايزه يك ميليون ريالي براي اعدام او<sup>4</sup>، افشاگريها عليه علي سهيلي، صدرالاشرف و حكيمي نقش مهمي در آشكار شدن وقايع پشت پرده سياست داشت.<sup>5</sup> چاپ مقالاتي بر عليه دربار به خصوص در مورد شاه و ثريا<sup>6</sup> و اشرف<sup>7</sup> باعث فراهم شدن زمينههاي قتلش شد. به خصوص اينكه روزنامههايي چون مردم و رزم ارگان حزب توده، دموكرات ارگان حزب قوام و تبريز مقالات تندي، عليه او چاپ ميكردند.<sup>8</sup> محمد مسعود كه «خشم و عصيان و فرياد طبقه محروم جامعه عليه استبداد و فساد حاكم بود»<sup>9</sup> در سال 1326 با كمك حسين فاطمي، سازمان مقاومت ملي را تأسيس كرد و به علت اقدامات افشاگرانهاش به تحريك اشرف پهلوي و با خسرو روزبه عضو رهبري حزب توده كشته شد.<sup>10</sup> از آثار او ميتوان به '''''در تلاش معاش'''''، '''''اشرف مخلوقات'''''، '''''گلهايي كه در جهنم ميرويند''''' و '''''بهار عمر''''' اشاره كرد.<sup>11</sup> <br />
