نشاط فرزند ميرزا محمد رحيم از سادات موسوي بود<sup>1</sup> و اجدادش كه گويا از حجاز به فارس كوچيدند و در جهرم ساكن شدند، اغلب از بزرگان، علما و پزشكان دوران خود بودند.<sup>2</sup> وي در اصفهان به دنيا آمد. افزون بر فارسي، عربي و تركي نيز آموخت. با شعر و ادب فارسي و عربي و دانشهاي رايج روزگار خود نظير دين، رياضي، حكمت الهي و منطق آشنايي يافت و درخوشنويسي نيز به مهارت رسيد. سپس به جرگة هواخواهان مكتب ادبي بازگشت كه مركز آن در اصفهان بود، پيوست.<sup>3</sup> پس از آن خانهاش به محفل عرفا، شعرا و فضلا تبديل شد. در 1218ق / 1803م به دارالخلافة تهران احضار گرديد و فتحعلي شاه قاجار (حك 1212 ـ 1250ق/ 1797 ـ 1834م) او را به القاب معتمدالدوله و منشي الممالك مفتخر كرد.<sup>4</sup> به دنبال كسب مقام سرپرستي ديوان رسائل، نامهها و فرامين پادشاه را با انشاء و خط خود مينگاشت و تا پايان حيات در اين سمت باقي ماند.<sup>5</sup> از جمله مأموريتهاي مهم دولتي وي، سفر به پاريس و ديدار با ناپلئون كبير بود. سرانجام بر اثر بيماري سل دنيا را وداع گفت.<sup>6</sup><br />

از آثارش ميتوان ''گنجينة معتمد/ گنجينة نشاط'' را نام برد كه پس از مرگ وي تدوين شد و دوبار به چاپ رسيد. او همچنين رسالهاي به شيوة گلستان سعدي و ديباچهاي بر ''ديوان'' خاقان (فتحعليشاه) نوشت كه اولي تنها در ''گنجينة معتمد'' و دومي هم در اين اثر و هم در مقدمة ''ديوان خاقان'' چاپ شده است.<sup>7</sup> اشعار نشاط داراي تعابير و اصطلاحهاي عرفاني و صوفيانه و نشانگر گرايش سراينده به طريق عرفان و سير و سلوك است.<sup>8</sup> نشاط در نثر از رهروان شيوة استادان كلاسيك متأخر بود. در قصيده از صباي كاشاني<sup>*</sup> (د 1238ق/ 1822م) و در غزل از حافظ شيرازي<sup>*</sup> پيروي ميكرد.<sup>9</sup> اگرچه سرودههايش تركيبهاي نامأنوس و صنايع متكلفانه دارد، اما در عين حال ساده و روان است.<sup>10</sup> <br />
