محمدشفيع ملقب به ميرزا كوچك، متخلص به وصال و مكني به ابواحمد فرزند محمد اسماعيل فرزند محمد شفيع، از شاعران بزرگ ايران در شيراز زاده شد. پدرش از كارگزاران شاهان صفوي در [[استان فارس|فارس]] بود.<sup>1</sup> در كودكي پدر خود را از دست داد و نياي مادريش ميرزا عبدالرحيم سرپرستي او را به عهده گرفت. پس از دو سال ميرزا عبدالرحيم درگذشت و امر نگهداري از وصال به ميرزا عبدالله دايي او واگذار گرديد.<sup>2</sup> در جواني به تحصيل دانش و هنر پرداخت و ادب، منطق، فقه، فلسفه و خوشنويسي را آموخت.<sup>3</sup> خطوط هفتگانه نسخ و نستعليق ثلث و جز آنها را نيز به خوبي فرا گرفت و 7 جلد قرآن كريم و 700 ادعيه را به پايان رساند.<sup>4</sup> پس از آن به درويشي گراييد و به سلك مريدان ميرزا ابوالقاسم سكوت درآمد.<sup>5</sup> ابتدا تخلصش مهجور بود و سپس به امر ميرزا سكوت، تخلص وصال را برگزيد.<sup>6</sup> با قاآني روابط گرمي داشت. فتحعليشاه، محمدشاه، شجاع السلطنه، فرمانفرما و چند تن از بزرگان فارس را مدح گفت. در اواخر عمر نابينا شد و در زادگاهش درگذشت. از آثارش ميتوان به: 1ـ ترجمة ''اطواق الذهب'' زمخشري به فارسي، 2ـ ''صبح وصال'' به شيوة ''گلستان''، 3ـ ''ديوان وصال'' شامل مدايح، مراثي، غزلها، مثنويها و ديگر اقسام شعر، 4ـ مثنوي ''بزم وصال'' در بحر متقارب، 5ـ تكميل ''شيرين و فرهاد'' وحشي بافقي، اشاره كرد.<sup>7</sup> شش فرزند پسر از او به يادگار ماند كه همه چون پدر جز شاعري از حسن خط بهره داشتند.<sup>8</sup> <br />
