بخشی از این كتاب را حكمای هند در سدههای پیش از میلاد از زبان حیوانات نوشته و بخش دیگر آن را حكمای ایرانی دورة انوشیروان و جانشینان او تألیف و به ترجمة پهلوی اصل كتاب ملحق كردهاند.<sup>1</sup> منبع اصلی آن پَنْجَه تَنْتَرَه، به سنسكریت در 5 باب در دست است.<sup>2</sup><br />
